Chapter Eleven

(At the arena that night before the show)

Laura ran her fingers through her hair as she continued to scribble things into her tiny notepad. She looked up and smiled at Wade's figure, which was dancing along with the Lance and Joey to Girlfriend. They'd been having some mess ups with the choreography, so they'd been working really hard on that one for the past half hour.

Her eyes moved to Jc, who was looking at some of the things on the stage and singing different notes into the microphone as a sort of warm up. He would move his body to the beat of the thing's he'd sing, which to Laura, for some unknown reason, seemed incredibly sexy.

She turned to look at Natalie but found that her attention was being fully directed to the other side of the stage. Her gaze followed Natalie's to where Justin was sitting on the edge of the stage, his legs dangling over the side, now singing an acapella version of Falling with Jc.

Natalie's head tilted to the side as she watched Justin even closer and sighed.

Not wanting to interrupt, Laura moved her attention back to the things she was writing, but before she could put her pencil down, Wade's clap caught her off guard. She blushed when she saw he was just giving the guys a beat to dance with.

"Does he have a girlfriend?"

Laura looked over when Natalie's voice sounded quietly in her ears. "Huh?"

She smiled innocently. "You know....Justin. Does he have a girlfriend?"

Ideas began going off in Laura's brain and she almost had to hold herself to the floor to keep from jumping in excitement at Natalie's sudden interest in Justin's love life. "Not that I know of... Why?"

Natalie shook her head and looked back to where Justin was sitting. "No reason, really. I was just curious."

Laura shrugged and looked back to her journal, where she began aimlessly jotting things on the paper.

Justin looked up from the floor which he'd been staring at to keep himself from looking at Natalie. His eyes slowly moved to where she was sitting and he was suprised to find that she was watching him. He winked casually at her, and smiled before looking back to the floor.

Natalie felt her face flush, and turned toward Laura. She saw Laura's hand moving quickly across the paper in which she was obviously writing something extremely important.

"Whatcha writing?"

Laura looked up, slamming the notebook closed. "Nothing." She smiled innocently, tapping her fingernails on the top of the journal.

"Right...."

"So, what was with Justin smiling at you just now? Does he like you or something?"

"Laura, I've probably told you this a thousand times in the last week, but I'll tell you ONE MORE TIME. Justin does NOT like me, okay? Justin.... does..... NOT.... like.... ME.. Got that?"

"Well, do you like him then?"

"Shut up, Laura."

Laura felt a smile sliding across her lips. "You do like him, don't you?"

"You have no clue what you're talking about Laura!"

"And you can't even admit that you find Justin attractive."

"Good lord! I KNOW he's attractive, but that doesn't mean I like him! Maybe you're the one who can't admit that YOU like WADE."

Laura shook her head. "Natalie, that's different. I've known Wade since I was little and I could never like him like that."

"Well... Just incase you were wondering if he shared those feelings, I'm pretty sure he doesn't, judging by the way he's staring at you right now."

Laura slowly turned her head and saw that Natalie was in fact right. Wade seemed deep in though and was practically gawking at Laura. When he noticed she was now looking at him, he turned his head and went back to watching the guys.

Laura sat back against the seat, crossing her arms. There was no way Wade liked her. He was.... WADE. And she was, well... LAURA. And they just weren't supposed to be together.

Since she was little, she'd heard from everybody that they would get married, but she never listened because she knew that was impossible. Wade would NEVER think of her that way. She still felt the same. Wade could never have feelings other than friendly toward her.

But lately, she'd been getting really strange vibes from him. She hadn't really read into him holding her hand much because it wasn't really that big of a deal. And the night before, she noticed he'd been awfully cuddly, but she just figured it was compensation for all the time they'd been missing together.

But to have him actually stare at her like he thought she was the most amazing thing in the world gave her a really weird feeling in her stomach. But for some odd reason, it wasn't a bad one. It was one she liked, a lot.

"Um, Laura? I'm gonna go down and get ready for the guys, okay?"

Laura nodded her head even though she'd barely heard what Natalie was saying over her own thoughts.

Natalie walked up the large walkway the led backstage and made sure to look up and smile at Justin before walking out. She wrapped a piece of hair around her finger and twisted it as she made her way toward her little room they'd provided her with.

"Natalie!"

Turning around, Natalie was surprised to find Justin jogging toward her. "Um, hey."

"Laura told me you wanted her to send me down to get my hair all spiffy for the show."

Natalie knew Laura was up to something, but she didn't mind Justin as company so she agreed. "Yep, I figured I'd do the hardest first to give my hands a good warm up."

Once Justin realized how badly that could be taken, he burst into laughter, putting an arm around Natalie's shoulders to steady himself. "That’s... so... YOU! You're so... bad!"

Natalie raised an eyebrow, grinning evilly. "Oh, you haven't seen nothing yet, baby." She reached her door and turned to smile at Justin. "How cool is this? It has my name on it."

"Um, yeah. That's really, um, cool. Did you check this whole tour out? It has my name on it."

Natalie rolled her eyes, opening the door. "You have the biggest ego I've ever known of."

"Oh, I've got some other big things too that I'm sure you'd love to use your hands on. Those amazing hands."

Natalie slapped his shoulder playfully, and pulled out the large chair, using her foot to make it higher. "Please, sit down and make yourself comfortable."

"Any chance you could do my hair while I sat on your lap because I'm thinking that would be pretty darn comfortable for me."

Natalie rolled her eyes. "You're such a flirt."

"And you like it a lot."

"What makes you think that?" She asked, dabbing some gel in her hands and then rubbing them together to make it thinner.

Justin shivered when her hands began massaging his head. "I know these things, Natalie. You want me."

"Oh! I'm just so transparent Justin! Can you.... SEE RIGHT THROUGH ME?"

"Gosh, Nat. That was such a good one!"

Natalie leaned over Justin to grab her comb and smiled confidently when her shirt came up slightly and brushed against the side of Justin's arm, which caused him to shift in his chair making it obvious she was having some type of affect on him. "You know, Justin...You would look so sexy with highlights."

"You think so?" He asked.

"Yeah! I mean, I surely dig guys with blonde highlights and I think they would just make you even more beautiful."

"Are you just messing with me, or do you think they'd look good?"

"Well, I thought the platinum hair was pretty lip licking good, so, highlights would definitely be drool worthy. Especially with a face like that."

"I don't trust you."

Natalie's bottom lip poked out and she moved around the chair where she plopped herself on Justin's lap. She wrapped her arms around his neck, and pouted. "Come on! I took so many classes and I never got to give anybody except the manikins highlights! Just give me a chance..." Her face moved as close as it could possibly get without their lips actually touching. "Please..."

Justin could have sworn he felt their lips meet very briefly, but he shook his head, knowing it was just his imagination. "No... Natalie, no! What if it looks stupid?"

Natalie kissed his cheek while releasing her arms from his neck and jumped off his lap. "Thanks Justin! I knew you'd let me do it! You're such a sweetie! I know now why all the girls love you so much!"

"You're not highlighting my hair."

"Yes I am Justin. I always get what I want.... and what I want is........." She bent down to look into his dark blue eyes. "You........" She paused and smiled. "TO JUST LET ME HIGHLIGHT YOUR HAIR BECAUSE I'M THE BEST HAIRDRESSER EVER AND I ALWAYS DO YOUR HAIR PERFECTTTTT!"

Justin sighed in defeat, knowing he'd eventually give in to Natalie. "Fine."

Natalie did a little victory dance around Justin before resuming her place behind him where she picked at his hair a little. "Great! When are you free?"

Justin shrugged his shoulders nervously. "Never?"

"Justin... You promised!"

"No I didn't."

"But you told me you'd let me do it. How about tomorrow?"

Justin threw his hands up and slapped them back down. "Fine. That's fine."

Natalie squealed, hugging Justin. "You're so great!" She kissed his cheek and then moved to his other cheek. "Wait until I tell my mom! She won't let me highlight her hair because she's scared of me when I have any chemicals, which I guess I don't blame her because of the green hair incident... Oh well... So, I'll see you tomorrow!"

Justin nodded his head uneasily. "Yeah..."

"Don't be scared Justin. Like you said before... I'm really great with my hands.. and I'm gonna show you just how great."

Justin groaned. "Oh boy! I can hardly wait."

_______________________________________________________________________________________________

Laura picked up the last pizza box from the floor and threw it into the large black trash bag, shaking her head. "Pigs."

"We are not."

Laura saw that Justin was still sitting on the floor, finishing up the end of the movie. Her and Wade had decided that since they'd all been restricted to the hotel for the night that they'd all just chill in their room and eat pizza and watch TV. Laura had thought it would be the perfect time for Natalie and Justin to spend time together, but Natalie declined because she wanted to relax and "work out."

Out of the corner of her eye, she spotted the Cinderella DVD. Grinning, she walked over to the case and grabbed Beauty and the Beast too, knowing these were some of Natalie's favorite movies.

She turned toward Justin who was now standing and stretching. "Oh, Justin?"

"Hmm?"

"Could you drop these off at Natalie's room on your way down? She asked me to bring them to her, but it must have slipped my mind."

Justin looked at the movies and reached out to grab them. "Sure. It's on my way anyways."

Justin was relieved when Natalie told him she'd changed her mind and wanted to wait to highlight his hair incase he didn't like it. He was kind of sad though when she told him she wasn't going to watch movies with them, because he liked spending time with her and hanging out, so this was the perfect opportunity to see her.

"Yeah, so..." Laura began pushing him toward the door. "I'll see you later... Bu bye." She closed the door behind her quickly and was surprised when it opened back up and Wade walked in. He looked around for a second, scratching his chin.

"Um, where did everybody go?" He asked.

"Well, Jc and Lance left a while ago to swim, and Chris went back to his room, Joey went to rent some Sports Illustrated thing from Pay Per View, and Justin took some movies to Natalie's room for me."

"Oh..." Wade looked around and saw that the room was cleaned up. "Good job."

"Thank you."

Wade grinned evilly, wrapping his arm around Laura's shoulders. "So, we're all alone now..."

"Yep, we are. How exciting."

"What shall we do with our alone time?" He asked her, almost suggestively.

"We shall get dressed into our night clothes and go to sleep."

Wade snapped his fingers. "Darn. I was hoping what you'd say wouldn't involve sleep."

"Wade, I only do those things with Justin. You know that." She winked, removing herself from the hold Wade's arm had on her shoulders and walking over to her open suitcase.

"You're a tease, you know that?"

Laura scrunched her nose in confusion. "How the heck am I a tease?"

"Well, you keep telling me you do all these things with Justin, but you never let me watch. What's up with that?"

Laura rolled her eyes. "Why do men find that kind of stuff exciting? I think it would be disgusting to watch other people get it on."

Wade shrugged. "Right...Anyways... Who gets the bed tonight?"

Laura grinned, slinging her shorts and shirt over her shoulder. She leaned up and hugged Wade's neck. "That's over now. I'm not an worrying freak anymore. I don't really know why I was so protective of not sleeping in the same bed as you. I mean, we're both adults and it's not like you and I would EVER do anything like... yeah..." Laura sighed, twisting a piece of Wade's platinum colored hair around her finger. "I guess I just don't want to grow up and things like that make me realize just how grown up I really am."

Wade kissed her forehead. "We're both growing up and it's really tough, but it's fun. We're learning new things about ourselves and about other people. These are going to be some of the best years of our lives and I'm glad that I'll be spending them with you."

Placing her head on Wade's shoulder, Laura let out another loud sigh. "There's so much to worry about though. I mean, sooner or later, I'm going to want my own house after college because the apartment isn't going to be enough for my family to live in when I eventually want one, and then there's still college. I still want to go..."

Wade knew about Laura's whole money situation. Her parents had more than enough money to put her in college and they insisted on paying for it, but Laura was very independent. She liked earning things for herself. She had a few scholarships lined up, but she still wanted to pay for it herself, even though her parents had already started putting in money.

She'd been like that all her life. Wade knew that she just didn't want the money from her parents, but even with that, he still wanted to pay for college and everything else herself. Laura wanted people to see her as a more independent, responsible person, so she always took it upon herself to pay for things. Still, Wade felt the need to take care of her.

Wade wrapped his arms around her waist and hugged her. "Lo, I told you that I'd take care of that. If money is what you need, you know I'll always be there to give it to you. I've got plenty of it and there's really nothing better for me to spend it on. I'll ALWAYS be here to help you. Always."

"I know you want to help, Wade." Laura mumbled against his neck. "But I just hate taking charity from others. You and I both very well know that my parents have more than enough money to support. I did have that huge scholarship for my writing, but I don't know.... I just want to do something else, ya know? I've always had a knack for art related things, and I thought it would be cool to major in something like that, but it's so expensive and I can't afford it and I couldn't ask you to do that..."

"I want to help you make your dreams come true, Laura. You were there for me since the beginning when I started my dancing and you're still here for me. There's nothing the matter with me helping you out a little bit.. You've already paid me back just by being my friend. Besides, you and I both know that your parents would more than give you money for college. Goodness Laura, both of your parents are in the law and get more money than most people get in a life time. Well, minus the billionaires and the millionaires out there, but still."

Laura loved the way Wade could always make her problems seem non-existent. She'd always known the reason she and Wade were still friends was because they cared about each other too much to have a life without the other.

"I love you so much Wade. I know you and I will be friends for a very long time. I care about you so much and you're just so sweet. I just never want you to think that I'm using you for your money because as far as I'm concerned, you could be poor and living in a dumpster and I'd probably still come visit you and bring you air fresheners."

Wade looked down at Laura and couldn't help but to smile. Instinctively, his head lowered toward hers, and their lips met briefly to share a tiny kiss as they always did, but neither expected fireworks to explode in the air and for feelings to release themselves and call out to each other in desperate attempts to get as much from the tiny kiss as they could.

Neither of them knew what to do, not based on lack of practice, but based on being too shy, so Wade took the job as the male to try and turn the kiss into something a little more passionate. He'd been waiting too long for something like this to happen, and he wasn't about to let it pass him by.

His lips opened over hers, hoping to set off some kind of reaction from the stiffened Laura. Hesitantly, her arms lifted to place on his large, buff chest. She leaned into the kiss, hoping Wade would do all the work, because she was too scared to do something wrong. This kiss had been something both of them had been waiting for their entire lives and now that it was finally happening, they were clamming up and being shy.

Wade continued moving his lips against hers, and when Laura wasn't getting what she wanted, she decided it was time to take some action.

Her arms wrapped around his neck and she used them to force his lips deeper into hers. She opened her mouth against his and allowed him to kiss her the way she'd been waiting for him to kiss her.

Laura wasn't expecting her butt to hit the soft cushion like mattress of the large bed and for Wade to practically land on top of her, the kiss suddenly becoming more demanding.

She'd never been shy with kissing guys before, especially when they were being aggressive the way Wade was, but with Wade, it was different, because she didn't want to do anything wrong. She wanted to show him what he'd been missing all the years he'd been busy dating bimbos and freaks.

Suddenly, Wade's tongue grazed Laura's top lip and she shivered, pulling away.

Wade looked at her in confusion, rolling onto his side. "Um...."

"I'm sorry, Wade. It's just... This is really... awkward."

Wade ran a hand through his hair, licking his warm, rosy lips. "Yeah... It is kinda wierd."

Laura rolled onto her back, sighing. "I liked that a lot..."

"Oh boy. I liked it a lot too. That was very.. um.... nice."

Laura rolled over, placing her lips against his again. Shocked by the sudden movement, it took Wade a minute to adjust before he finally began responding to her again. Wade had shared passionate kisses before, but he'd never had the feelings that accompanied Laura's kisses and it was causing everything inside of him to liven up.

A knock at the door pulled them both away from their exploration and it took time for them to both regain composure and their breath. They both stood up, trying to ignore exactly what had happened in those last few minutes. Wade scratched his head, walking toward the door.

"Who is it?" He asked.

"It's me, Chris! I left my bag of skittles."

Wade turned around and saw a large bag of skittles on one of the dressers and he walked over to grab them and then opened the door, handing them to Chris. "Here. Go. Bye."

"Meow. Did I interrupt something?"

Wade growled. "Yes, actually you did, so go away." Wade closed the door and turned around, finding that Laura wasn't in the spot he'd left her in. He began walking into the room and turned to see that she was back laying in the bed with the covers over her.

"Laura?" He whispered.

"I'm tired, Wade. Can we talk in the morning?"

Wade couldn't believe it, but he knew Laura always had to act like things didn't affect her, when they actually did. He shook his head as he lifted his shirt over his head and threw it to the floor. He crawled up on the bed and didn't fail to notice the way Laura scooted further away from him.

"Goodnight, love."

Laura mumbled a goodnight and turned over, fearing the affect the events would now have over their friendship in the days to come.
