Chapter Twelve

Natalie walked back and forth down the hallway waiting for the time to come when she would be now starting one of the guys' hair. She looked around to see all of the chaos making sure certain things were still working properly. Looking over her shoulder, she saw three guys testing out some of the toys for the 'It's Gonna be Me' portion of the show. She grinned when she saw that one of the 'bouncy ball things' as she called them broke. Immediately they came out with another one. Then she looked over to five racks of clothes and saw two ladies going through all of the outfits while there were the dancers and another lady checking out the five girls' clothes for when they would be dancing.

How did she get into this? All of these people were trying their best to do something good for the guys and all she did was their hair. All of a sudden she didn't feel that important for the show or anything to that point. Nobody would really care if their hair was a little messed up. It was still Nsync and that's all that mattered. She almost wished she had a job where she had a huge reason to worry and something to do rather than watch the people who DID have things to do.

Natalie's shoulder was tapped upon quickly. She turned around and looked up at the tall person standing beside her. "Um, hello."

Justin grinned down at Natalie and put a hand on her shoulder. "Staring into space over there?"

"I was just fascinated with everything that everyone does for you guys. It's amazing the work they do just to make every show perfect."

Justin shrugged and looked around to indeed see all of the chaos and the stress flowing out of everyone in the area. "Yea, I understand, but our wonderful tour director would be pissed if anything went wrong."

Natalie nodded her head and cringed when she heard something shatter. "That didn't sound good. Who's your tour director?"

Justin stared at her blankly. He thought she knew that Wade was a big part of this whole deal. "Wade pretty much was in charge in that area."

"Really?"

"Yea, amazing, isn't it?"

Natalie nodded her head in satisfaction. "He certaintly knows what he's doing."

"Yeah, he does." He smiled and removed his hand to wrap his arm around her shoulders. "Are you busy now?"

Natalie rolled her eyes with a deep, friendly sigh. "Does it look like I'm busy?"

"Well, no, but what if that's because I'm keeping you from something."

"Justin, I wouldn't waste important time on you unless it was actually worth it, so don't try to boost that big 'ol ego of yours, you're starting to look like a hot air balloon."

Justin shook his head. "Everyone thinks I have an ego problem."

Natalie looked away and mumbled with a cough to cover. "I wonder why..."

Justin turned right in front of her and stared into her eyes. "What did you say?"

Natalie shrugged and started walking away. "Not a word, not a word."

"Well, where are you going?"

Natalie began to walk further away past all of the wardrobe people and all of the technicians and everyone else who was testing things and the three guys playing with the toys. She pulled out a planner from her purse and looked to see that she needed to get back to the guys dressing room hallway area. Justin ran up to her and began walking with her at her pace. "Where are you going?"

Natalie shook her head and started walking faster. "I have to do Lance's hair now, JC and him switched times and I need to get there. I don't worry about being late for JC because he's JC is, well, JC. But I still dont' know Lance that well and he needs to get that good impression still I think. Besides, didn't I tell you I wouldn't waste time on you if I had something to do? Remember that from probably oh a minute ago?"

Justin sighed and walked with her. The fans weren't loading in yet, so Justin was still partially safe without security guards holding his hands practically like he was in first grade. "Yes, I remember that."

Soon enough they were in the area where the guys would get their hair ready and wait for the fans to load into the building before going to the stage. Natalie went into her room and Justin followed. Lance was sitting there with a magazine. "I'm sorry Lance."

Lance put the paper down and sat down in the chair so Natalie could do his hair. "Don't worry about it, you weren't late anyways. I was early."

"Oh, well, all right, let's get this done."

Natalie worked her hands quickly to send him off. She wanted to get it down quickly so she could talk to Justin. He just happened to be next on her list, so everything worked out good. "All right Justin, sit down."

Justin sat down in the chair and grinned at Natalie through the mirror. "What were you staring at earlier?"

"Just everyone and all of the chaos that was happening."

"And you were thinking?"

Natalie shook her head like she always did and grabbed a comb and pulled at his hair. He yelped a few times but he knew that she was doing it on purpous. "Let me guess Justin, you can read my mind, can't you?"

Justin shook his head violently. "No!"

"All right. But I was just thinking all of those people work so hard to make this show work well and perfectly, well as good as it can each time. All I do is make your hair look pretty, and, oh nevermind, I'm not going to let you sit here and listen to me whine like a two year old..."

Justin motioned for her to continue. "I dont' mind, I like to hear what the people who work for us and the show think, so continue, vent, say anything."

"Well, it's just, I do hair. That's it. None of your fans care if your hair is perfect. I do, and that's probably about it. The fans dont' care if you look like shit. They're still going to be excited that they are seeing you guys perform. The hair is just another gem on the overall product, but if you took it away, it wouldnt' be noticed. It's just frustrating. I realized today that it wouldnt' make much of a difference that I wasn't here."

Justin shook his head as Natalie continued taming his curls. "No, Natalie, you are needed here. Sure, the hair doesn't SEEM like a big deal, but it is. Maybe our fans don't care, but everyone who works on the show and gets everything working cares because they want us to look good and I know that all of the guys and I really care what our hair looks like."

"I think you're full of it, I'm not that important."

"If you left, I don't think the show would look as nice as a whole. Without our hair dazzled up, it makes us look like trailer trash playing with expensive things on stage and people will be like, wow Nsync is ending soon. The pop world is ending. They'd be saying that because we look like trash and they'd asume that since our image is slipping that so are we, but the truth of the matter is, we don't want fans to think anything negative about us, so we try hard, and if hairstyle is going to affect their opinion, then we care. We WANT to look our best so we can FEEL our best."

"Ok Justin, whatever you say, I still think you're full of shit."

Justin looked in the mirror to see that he was satisfied with his hair. "Ok, I'm done, that looks good enough for me."

"Just good enough? Are you serious, there's so much more I could do. Hang on, let me do this for one more minute. All right?"

"That shows right here that you are good. You wanted to do better because you know you could do better and that's because you care. We dont' hire people that don't care, and that's why we need you. The more employees that care, the better our show is, even if somethings get screwed up. The guys and I would understand if there are problems, it's not like we're selfish and think everything should be run perfectly just because hey, we're Nsync."

"You know Justin, it's amazing how sometimes you can make a lot of sense, but almost so much that you keep rambling on and just start saying things that I didn't really need to know."

Justin's cheeks turned a light shade of pink. He wasn't one to get embarassed, but he didn't like acting stupid about Natalie. It felt different. HE wanted to impress HER more than she wanted to impress the guys and the whole world that would be seeing them perform, and that's what worried him.

What if he was beginning to like her a lot. That could ruin things on the show. What if his hair wasn't tip-top because they would be concentrated on each other. The thoughts coming to his mind about a relationship with Natalie were making him feel ridiculous. Just because they could talk didn't mean they could end up together as lovers. Or could it?

Justin looked back in the mirror to see Natalie sitting on the couch. "Are you done?"

Natalie nodded her head. "Yes, I'm done, you can leave if you want."

Justin smiled and stood up. "I'll see you later. Before we leave to go on stage, all right?"

Natalie stood up to get the door for Justin. "See you later."

Justin leaned down and meant to kiss her cheek briefly, but his lips slipped and caught the corner of Natalie's mouth. He apologized quickly. "Sorry, that was meant for the cheek and-"

"Dont' worry about it." She stood up on her tip-toes and kissed his cheek quickly. "Go and do whatever your next destination is and send Joey in here. This will be a riot."

"All right."

Joey entered the room and hopped into the chair. "Ok Natalie show me what you can do."

"Ok, I see Justin didn't have to go get you."

"I like it when you do our hair. You're good at it and you care. That's always important. It's comforting to know that someone that actually cares about her work and how it turns out."

Natalie sighed and grabbed a brush to begin. "Well, well. Did Justin tell you to tell me that?"

"No."

"That's like a shortened version of what we were just talking about."

"Oh."

_______________________________________________________________________________________________

(later, before the show)

Natalie was now walking around outside of her room and throughout the halls to see outside that the fans were now inside. She looked right next to her and saw three huge 'box' like things. She looked inside and sighed. "Wonder what that is."

JC walked up to her and smiled. "Those would be our ticket up to the stage to wait there for our arrival onto the stage, nifty idea isn't it?"

"So basically you're going to be going through the crowd and no one is gonna know that it's you guys?"

"Yes, basically. It's great. Those fans are going to kick themselves when they realize that they probably could have gotten a piece of us, if they tried hard enough that is. Our security guards are the best."

"They kind of have to be if they are going to work for you with your rabid fans."

"Yeah, I understand."

JC walked away and Justin came straight in almost as if JC went back there and tagged Justin to get in there and talk to her. "Boo."

Natalie jumped when she felt Justin's warm breath on her neck. "Oh my gosh, that scared me."

"I bet it did, I'm a pretty scary guy."

"Yeah, you are."

Justin looked at the boxes and grinned at Natalie. "Good idea isn't it?"

"What?"

"The boxes."

"Oooooh yeah. JC and I were just talking about that briefly I think that's so funny because of your fans, they probably think it's like extra toys or something for you guys to mess around with."

"So you've never been back here before we go on, haven't you."

"No-" Natalie was cut off when everyone was told to get in the boxes and she got shoved in the front of one of them without even being noticed by the guards. "Wait!!"

They didn't hear her because she was now enclosed in the box with someone behind her. "HellO?" She began pounding on the outside.

"Calm down Natalie."

She looked through the dark to try to see who it was when all of a sudden a flashlight was turned on. "It's me Natalie."

"Justin, what is going on?"

"You got shoved in, pretty fun, isn't it?"

"Um, NO! I'm claustraphobic!"

"Really?"

"No, just caught under shock." She grinned at Justin. "Fooled you."

"Oh, because if you were, I could get you out, but you mine as well stay for the ride and see what we do during the show. Lots of ripping off clothes and costume changes, something I bet you'd love to watch."

Natalie shook her head and turned so she was facing Justin. "There goes that ego again. It inflates probably ever ten minutes, doesn't it? That's record time. I thought one of my ex-boyfriend's had it bad. His ego flared probably at least once an hour."

"You must not have met JC yet."

"Are you serious? JC doesn't have an ego like you, I'm sorry Justin, I may not know him as well as you, but if someone has an ego problem, that's the FIRST thing you notice about them, not one of the last ones."

"Is that what you noticed about me?"

Natalie nodded her head and smiled evilly at Justin with her eyes piercing into his in a seducing way that she didn't even know she was doing. "Oh yes, the VERY first thing."

"It wasn't THAT bad was it?"

"Yeah, it was."

Justin shook his head. "No it wasn't, I give good impressions."

"Then you must not have been thinking that day because man did it show!"

Justin leaned foward to whisper into her ear. "You're really asking for an ass-whooping."

Natalie shivered to Justin's breath. She didn't like where this was going. Being enclosed in a box with another guy that had one of the biggest ego's on earth and an extreme amount of charm was something she didn't want to fool with, but being stuck in her position was something she couldnt' help that moment. She knew she was living girls' dreams.

The things they'd pay to be stuck in this box with Justin Timberlake, and all she wanted was to get out of there because she wasn't fond of being enclosed in spaces like that for a long time.

She leaned in to Justin's breath and smiled at him when his nose was now touching hers. "You know, you better stay on this tour with us. I'd be depressed."

Natalie grinned. "Yeah, remember, I have magical, wonderful hands, like none other, what would you do without me?"

Justin chuckled. "Natalie, you got a little bit of an ego going there?"

"Not at all."

Slowly he leaned in and kissed her lips slowly. He didn't know where this was going. They still didn't know that much about her, but there was something about her that was so attracting for him. He couldn't keep back the fact that he wanted to kiss her so bad anymore. He had been waiting for that moment more than anything because he could only imagine what she could do with her lips. If her talent with her lips was as good as her hands, he knew he'd get a good kiss out of it.

Natalie was in shock, she didn't know what to do. She knew Justin was hot, but she didn't know what to do at that moment because she had been having very confusing feelings about Justin and they were eating her away. Him making the first move was easier on her because now she didnt' have to worry about screwing anything up.

It would be his fault anyways. Justin kissed over her lips and raised a hand to lay on her cheek. He knew they'd be at the stage soon, but that was slipping his mind and he was now wishing that the trip to the stage was an hour long instead of 2 minutes. Sure it was rocky but with a kiss like that, it didn't matter.

Natalie gave in and scooted closer to him. The only problem was the back rest where she was sitting. Slowly Justin's arms wrapped around Natalie's waist and he pulled her back and continued to kiss her.

All of a sudden the trip was over and the door opened quickly JC was standing there now with Laura. They were both staring at Natalie and Justin who had all of a sudden stopped. Natalie jumped out and Laura chased after her. "NATALIE, DETAILS, I MUST KNOW!!!!!"

JC looked at Justin and shook his head. "Wow, the things a box can do for a guy who has been needing a girl for a while now. The magic that happens."

JC walked away disappointed that he threw Natalie in the wrong box.

(later that night at like the hotel or something in the lobby)

Laura paced in front of Natalie who was sitting on the couch trying her hardest to ignore Laura, but it was not working. She would not shut up. "Come on Natalie, what's going on? You can tell me."

When there was no response, Laura sighed. "You kissed, I saw that, everyone did. Now all of us want answers."

"There are no answers to that."

"Yes there are."

"There's nothing to say about it. It was a complete accident; you don't even know what happened."

Laura nodded and sat down right beside Natalie. "True, I don't know because I wasn't in there with that man letting him devour my lips, but you were, so this is where you fill me in on what happened, because I like to know these things and then yea, I just like to know them. Don't ask why." She grinned evilly, thinking about the oh so wonderful bet her and JC had going on still.

Natalie shook her head. "There is nothing to say about it. I already said that. He kissed me and I forgot who it was and just went into it. Was I supposed to turn him down? I'd feel bad. What was I supposed to do?"

Laura grinned and folded her arms happily. "You did the right thing. If you're feeling these things, you should go for it, and if he starts with it, then you should DEFINATELY go in for the kill. What can you lose? Just blame it on him for starting all of it and then you will be off the hook."

"Laura, I would never do anything like that. I don't want to be with him. Sure, he's fine and kind, but that doesn't mean anything. A relationship like that wouldn't work. Could you imagine one of the guys going out with a cruddy hair stylist? Tell me of anything like that that has happened, and I'll 'go in for the kill' as you like to say."

"Natalie, it's worth it. Justin's worth it. I'm just tired of seeing you guys play around. You talk, you flirt you hang out and all of that good stuff, and now you've kissed. What else do I have to say? Everything is in place, just think of the fireworks. Man, the fourth of July EVERYDAY. That's what I'm talking about. Plus, everyone will be pleased to see you guys together." Then Laura went to mumble under hear breath. "Besides Jc. heh."

"What did you say?"

Laura shook her head and stood up. "Nothing at all."

Natalie stood up with her and walked over to the pop machine with Laura and just stood there slouching in a depressed mood. "I don't know what to do."

Laura glared at the pop machine that wasn't giving her pop to her. She kicked it furiously and then looked over at Natalie. "What do you mean?"

"I just don't know what to do with everything that happened today."

"It was just a kiss." Laura paused to think about what she said. Sure, it really was just a kiss, but if that was true, why did she react the way she did when Wade had kissed her? She didn't even want to think about that, so she corrected herself. "Ok, so it was a kiss, but you know what I mean."

"I don't know what to think about it. If I read into it, I could screw something up majorly. It wouldn't go to well if I was working on this tour and me and Jusitn being together. It would be even worse if a breakup happened, and I don't think I'm ready for something like that.

Laura grabbed her pop and walked away with Natalie. "I dont' know what to tell you except to just follow your heart. No, I'm not playing my 'let's hook Natalie and Justin up' routine. Just do what you feel is right. If you screw up, you screw up. We can't be perfect.. After all..."

"We aren't Ozzy Osbournes running around.."

"Oh my gosh, you watched 2gether too? That's great!"

Natalie grinned. "Who didn't? That was soo funny."

"I know... Mickey rocked."

"No, Chad did."

"You know Mickey was the best..."

Natalie shook her head and just went along with it. She was convinced that she was right. "Are all of us still going out tonight since we'll be here tomorrow too?"

Laura looked at a clock on the wall and nodded her head. "Yea, we're leaving pretty soon actually, let's just go out to the van and wait for the guys to come..."

Natalie and Laura walked out of the hotel and over to the bus where some security guards were standing, waiting for the guys. One of the security guards, Randy, opened the door for the girls and smiled at them. "You guys leaving soon?"

Laura shrugged her shoulders and sat back. "I'm not sure when we're leaving, but we're supposed to leave soon."

"You guys better be good. Be nice to the guys."

Natalie smiled at Randy and nodded her head. "All right, we'll be good. Trust me, we're as innocent as Chris."

Randy raised and eyebrow and shook his head. "That says a lot. Nat, what was up with you and Justin earlier? I saw the whole box thing going on because I was pushing Lance's."

"Um, nothing. I was just checking the boxes out and all of a sudden it closed. After that, we got out, nothing to it."

"No tongue tangling?"

"No. Where is everyone getting this from?"

Laura looked over at Natalie and coughed. "My goodness, lie much? Everyone saw, just get over it."

Randy turned to see the guys and Wade walking towards the van and he moved out of the way after winking at Natalie. "Be good to Justin, he has a show in two days. I wouldn't want him to screw up or fall or anything."

"Rob, maybe you should be quiet."

Laura saw Chris walking towards the van first and patted the seat next to her. "Oh Chris, bestfriend... Sit next to wonderful Laura."

He sat down as the others loaded in the back and scooted far away from her as she scooted foward to put her arm around him. "Oh, hello."

"What do you want?"

"Nothing. You scared of me?"

Chris nodded his head and scooted over more. "Yes, terrified."

Laura scooted back over and sighed. "Fine." She traded spots with Natalie so she got the window and directly behind her, Wade was sitting in the back. He moved his hand to touch her shoulder. She jumped and turne around. "Oh, hi..."

"Hey, where were you all day? I didn't get to see you."

"Um, I was walking around with Natalie and stuff."

"Oh."

Laura turned back around as he was leaning closer to tell her something. Even though she turned away, he leaned closer and whispered. "Laura, we still need to talk."

She nodded her head so he would know she wasn't ignoring him and then went back to looking outside at the lights and the stars. Natalie sat there an stared into space. Justin was sitting in the same van as her and they hadn't even talked since earlier that day. She was going to talk to him, it was just a matter of when and where.

_______________________________________________________________________________________________

At the club, Natalie was now standing at the bar getting a drink when she felt a tap on her shoulder. It was some drunk guy and he eyed her body up and down and grinned. "Hey baby."

Natalie gave him a weird look and grabbed her drink. "Do I know you?"

"Know, but I'll let you get to know me."

"Um, no, I don't think I WANT to know you."

The guy grinned and put his hands in his pockets. "Want to dance?"

Natalie rolled her eyes. "Not now."

"Maybe later?"

Natalie shook her head. "Maybe never."

He took his hands out of his pockets and grabbed her by the waist and started dancing against her body. Natalie pushed against him and glared at him. "I said I didn't want to dance with you!"

"Come on baby. You know you want to dance. Dancing is fun."

"Only when it's with someone else fun, not drunk and someone that you can actually stand. Oh, and don't forget, someone you know! I dont' know you and I don't exactly grind with strangers. It's not my type of thing, so you can just leave now and go find some other bimbo slut, cuz this INTELLIGENT person in front of you doesn't want you."

"You're a slut? Cool!"

Natalie rolled her eyes. "Whatever, take it how you want. I didn't say I was a slut, but if you want to believe that, then go for it."

"Come on, why won't you just dance with me once?"

"You're drunk, and gross!"

"What if I showered right now?"

Justin came up from behind the guy and tapped his shoulder. "Hey, maybe you should leave her alone. I don't think she wants to be bothered."

The guys looked up at Justin to see that Justin was probably two inches taller than him and a lot more built than him. "Am I supposed to listen to you? You're just a kid."

"Yea, I may be a 'kid' but I know this girl here doesn't want to dance with you."

"Yea she does."

Justin rolled his eyes. "You just leave her alone. If you bug her again, I'm going to have to deal with you outside."

"Ooh, what a threat."

"Just leave."

The guy walked away and grumbled to himself with a beer in his hands as he went for another girl a few feet away. Justin turned towards Natalie and smiled. "So how are you doing?"

Natalie smiled and put her drink down. "I could have handled him."

Justin shrugged. "You weren't doing to well with that anyway."

"Well, thank you."

Justin nudged towards the dance floor and smiled at Natalie. "Do you want to dance?"

Unhesitantly, Natalie walked with him to the floor and danced along to the music. Justin smiled at her and put his arms around her waist. "Are you ok with earlier? I'm really sorry. I never really got to tell you that, but I truly am sorry, I didn't mean to do that."

Natalie smiled and nodded her head slowly. "That's all right, I understand."

"Natalie?"

"Yea?"

"That kiss, did you..." He paused and looked at the floor. He didn't want to know if she felt anything. Sure, he did, but he didn't want to embarass himself. "Did you..."

Natalie looked back up at him and grinned. "Did I what?"

Justin's shoulders slumped and he shook his head. "Nevermind, I forget what I was going to say."

"That's all right."

Natalie looked back up at Justin and then back down. "Maybe we should go talk."

Justin nodded and took her hand. "That's what I was thinking."

Justin took Natalie's hand and dragged her to a table where they were now sitting. He didn't know what to tell her about the kiss earlier. It was a different feeling. He had never had a feeling like that when he kissed a girl like when he kissed Natalie earlier. It was all new to him to have a kiss like that. He didn't want to come out and tell her that he felt something different, but there was nothing else to say.

Natalie was still baffled from the whole thing and left completely speechless. "I don't know where to start."

"Natalie, you're a very beautiful person, and you should know that. I've always had a little thing for you. We haven't known each other long at all,but there has been something about your attitude and personality that is just awesome, and I just lost it in that box thing. I was being immature and pushy."

"Justin, I understand, but about the kiss."

"What is there to say?"

"I don't know. I don't know what to think or what to say and it's bothering me."

Justin nodded his head and folded his arms on the table. "We should never let anything like that happen again. Everyone back there saw, and they're all going to think something is going on. I'm sorry that they're going to be doing that to you, but they don't know the truth, so that's all that matters."

"Yea. I guess this talk was pointless."

Justin shook his head and leaned in quickly to give a peck on her lips. "Let's just go dance, I'm terribly sorry, still."

Natalie slapped his shoulder and grinned up at him. "I'm tired of you being sorry. There's no reason to be sorry. It was an accident. Justin, things like that happen." She continued to think to herself. Of course, don't tell anyone what you're feeling Justin, go ahead. That's exactly what she thought of Justin. She wanted to know what he thought and what he was feelining, but that was something that wasn't going to come out anytime soon.
