Chapter Ten

Wade sighed, sitting back in the large, comfortable chair the hotel had provided his and Laura's suite with. He lifted his hands to either side of his head to massage his temples in attempt to make all his thinking easier on him. It just wasn't all adding up. He'd never had feelings toward Laura other than friendship, and all of a sudden, he was finding it hard not to gaze into her sapphire eyes, not to hold her soft hands constantly, and not to run his fingers through her long, silky hair.

He wasn't understanding it. Friendship was all he ever wanted, and he didn't even want to think of wanting anything else. He also knew that Laura would be completely against it, and making her angry about it would be the last thing he would want to do. He just didn't know what he would do if he would ever really want anything else.

He was actually scared of what might happen.

Growling, he stood up, looking around and hoping there would be something for him to do. His entire plan was ruined though when he caught something from the corner of his eye. Laura's Victoria's Secret bag.

Curiosity got the best of him, so he walked over to glance into the bag. His eyebrows scrunched together in confusion when he saw that the bag was empty. He knew he'd seen her paying for things, so he figured they had to be somewhere.

He saw another bag and went to it, looking in it, also. He felt bad for being nosy, but with Laura, sometimes you just had to.

"I'm gonna soak up the suuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuunnnnnnnn...ugh, that song's stupid..." The door to the bathroom opened, revealing a freshly showered, singing Laura.

Wade jumped back, and looked up at her with an innocent smile on his face. "Why, hello Laura. You're looking good, and smelling very nice, may I add."

"Wade, I know you were looking through my bags trying to find what I got from Victoria's Secret, but it's already hidden and I'm not going to show you because it's none of your business."

Wade bit his nails, swaying back and forth. "I um.... wasn't looking. No, I wasn't. Don't blame me for something you don't even know."

"Wade, I saw you looking through the bag when I came out here."

"Yeah, that's because I gave you one of my bags and I didn't know where you put it and I needed it."

"The only thing you bought today was candy."

"I'm not allowed to need candy?"

Laura rolled her eyes, sitting on the large bed. "You're so pathetic."

"And you're such a baby!"

"I am not!"

"Then tell me what you got."

Laura stood from her spot on the bed and tore the towel from her head, revealing her wet, curly dark hair. She ran the towel through it quickly before disguarding it beside her. "I'm going down to see what Jc's doing. I'll be back."

"What's up with you and Jc?" Wade asked, as she was about to exit the room.

She turned around, an evil smile on her face. "Why? Are you jealous?"

"Did I say I was jealous? I simply asked my friend what was with her and another guy. That's all. I'm just curious."

"We're just friends, if that's what you want to know. We just get along well and he's fun to hang out with."

Wade nodded his head. "Alright then. That's all I wanted to know."

Laura stood in the doorway for a moment, before she walked back in and closed the door. She walked to where Wade was standing and wrapped her arms around his neck, hugging her body to his. She did kind of feel that Wade may think she was resenting him. He had invited her to join the tour to spend time with him, and she'd sort of been ignoring him, especially when Jc was around.

She removed her head from where she'd placed it on his chest and looked up at him. She leaned on her tip toes and rapped her arms around his neck so that she could place a soft kiss on the corner of his mouth. "I'm sorry that I haven't been spending much time with you lately. There's just so much to do and I get caught up in it all and forget that the real reason I'm here is you."

At the moment, Wade didn't care why she'd stayed away from him before, because that had all lead up to that amazing, peck of love she'd just shared with him, and his heart was doing flip flops because of it. "Um... Well, it's okay, Lo. I understand. I get a little excited sometimes too and forget about everybody."

She smiled, moving her hands down the length of his long arms, and finally placed her small hand in his large, rough, muscular one. "Come on. We're going for a walk."

Wade didn't say anything, but instead followed her out the door and down the stairs, leading to the exit. Laura pulled him out into the darkened parking lot and smiled. "It's so pretty out."

"Where are we walking to?"

"Nowhere in particular... I just wanted to spend some time with you.... We haven't really gotten a chance to talk...."

"I'm sorry..."

Laura hit his shoulder playfully. "What's with the I'm sorry business? I want to see a smile on your face, and I want to see it now."

Wade flashed her a cheesy grin and she nodded her head in satisfaction. "Now that's what I'm talking about." After a long pause, Laura decided to talk again. "So.... Um.... How do you like being a choreographer?"

"You're such a dork..." Wade let go of Laura's hand so that he could wrap his arm around her shoulders. "I love you so much. You do know that, right?"

Laura bit down on her lip and shook her head. "Nope. Tell me again."

"You KNOW I love you, Laura."

There was an awkward silence, so Wade decided to talk. "So, how do you like being on tour? It's crazy, huh?"

Laura shrugged. "It's pretty fun, but I hate the early wake ups."

Wade shook his head. "I knew you would..." He removed his arm from her shoulder and took her hand again. "Do you like Jc?"

Shocked by the question, Laura turned to look at him. "What? Me, like JC? Are you kidding?" Wade lifted an eyebrow and she knew he was serious. "Heavens no! We're totally just friends and I have no feelings like that toward him whatsoever. What would make you think that?"

"I dunno...." Wade looked at the ground as they continued walking up side of the quiet street. "You just seem to like hanging out with him more than me and you always used to like hanging with me most, so I thought maybe you had a crush on him or something..."

Laura giggled, leaning up to kiss Wade's cheek. "You're such a goofball sometimes. I wish I could just get into your head and know the things you think about.. You're so deep, but I love it."

"I couldn't help it. If you don't like him, um, does he like you?"

Laura hit his arm and shook her head. "Shut up! How's your mom doing?"

"Good, I guess. I just talked to her the other day and she told me to tell you to behave yourself, but I didn't see you all day so, I must have forgotten."

"Oh, come on! I just apologized and I promise I'm going to change my evil ways and spend more time with you."

"I was just kidding with you. What are you doing tomorrow? I think they have the whole day off up until four, cuz I think they're appearing on Rosie."

"Oh yeah? Well, right now, I'm not doing anything, but I need to check with Jc."

Wade stopped, pulling her to him, and digging his hands into her sides. Laura had been ticklish since they were little and it was always his weapon against her.

She kicked him, and began running back toward the hotel, but wasn't fast enough because he caught up with her and lifted her in the air.

"Wadeeeeeeee..... Put me down!!!!"

"You promise not to kick me again?"

"Only if you give me a piggy back ride!!!" She jumped out of his arms and walked around so she could climb on his back. "Yeehaw! Go horsy, go!"

Wade rolled his eyes. "Why I'm friends with you is a question I'll never be able to answer."

(Backstage at the 'Rosie O’Donnell Show') Natalie quickly rummaged through her bag, scratching her head in frustration. "Lance, I am so sorry. I cannot believe I misplaced that gel."

"It's okay, Nat. Really."

"I know, but it's your favorite and I shouldn't have lost it! I should have been more organized and--"

"Natalie, chill out. My hair will look fine with any gel. You need to take a deep breath, slap a little of this yellow gel in your hands and get to working before we both go crazy."

She laughed, shaking her head as she grabbed the bottle from Lance's hand and squirted a little onto her hands. "I'm sorry about that." She rubbed her hands together before running them through Lance's hair. "I just get a little freaked out when things go wrong. Everything is supposed to be perfect. I'm just a perfectionist, I guess."

"It's okay, I---"

Jc's loud voice interrupted Lance's comment and he rolled his eyes in annoyance. "LOOK LAURA! IT'S NATALIE AND LANCE! Wow, Lance. Your hair has never looked better. Doesn't Lance's hair look great Laura?"

Crossing her arms, Laura shrugged. "Yeah, I guess." Her eyes moved to where Justin was sitting by himself, staring off into space. Curious, Laura walked away from Jc and over toward where Justin was sitting. "Hey you."

Justin looked up and smiled. "Oh, hey. Whatcha doing?"

"Nothing. How come nobody's working on your hair."

Justin grinned. "Oh... There was someone working on my hair, until she broke her pick. She just ran off to find another one and she was like freaking out. It was some pretty scary stuff."

An idea popped into Laura's head and she couldn't ignore it. "Natalie would never freak out like that, huh?"

"Yeah, I know. She's so calm and she actually talks to me. This lady has said more things to herself, than to me... It's quite frightening."

Laura clicked her tongue. "If only she wasn't doing stupid Lance's hair, then she could be over here doing yours. Heck, it would probably even be done by now."

Justin shrugged. "Yeah, um, sure Laura."

"Well, what do you say I talk to that little old lady of yours and see if she'd rather work with someone who has less..... um.... fluffy hair? Hm? That sound good? Of course it does!"

Laura then took it upon herself to walk over to the lady whom was talking to one of the other woman. "Excuse me?"

She turned to look at Laura. "Yes?"

"Were you the woman working on Justin's hair?"

"Um, yes?"

"What do you say I find someone else to do Justin's hair and you work on Lance's hair?"

The woman looked over to where Natalie was busily working at Lance's hair. "I really have no problem with working on Mr. Timberlakes hair and there's already a young lady working on Mr. Bass' hair."

"Oh yes! Very insightful, but what would you say if I told you she'd switch with you?"

"It really isn't a problem and--"

"Natalie!" Laura interrupted.

Natalie excused herself from Lance and walked over to where Laura was standing with the woman. "Yes?"

"Would you please put this woman out of her misery and switch her? She's having the worst time with Justin's hair and I'm sure you can find something to do with it."

Natalie shrugged. "That's fine.."

"Wait!" Jc butted in. "Natalie was doing so well on Lance's hair!"

Natalie pulled Jc and Laura both to the side, putting her hands on her hips, and raising her eyebrows in question. "Jc, why do you ALWAYS want me to hang out with Lance, or talk to Lance, and Laura, why are you ALWAYS pushing Justin on me? I think you two need to grow up. If this kind woman would like for me to help out, than I will, but you two need to back off." Natalie flipped her hair to add effect and walked over to where the woman was standing behind Justin.

"Excuse me?"

The woman looked up and smiled. "Hi, Miss."

"I'm sorry about my friends, but if you'd really like me to work on Justin's hair, I can hurry up and finish it up because I'm already finished with Lance's hair."

Justin turned and smiled at Natalie. "You can trust Natalie. She's amazing with her hands."

Natalie turned her head when she began to giggle and began walking away when it started to get louder. Catching on, Justin's face turned red and he began laughing too.

Laura nudged JC and smiled. "Look. I don't even have to help them. It's already obviously there."

"Whatever."

Laura grinned and hugged JC. "Aww, you disappointed that things aren't going your way?"

JC shook his head and sighed, walking away with Laura. "You might not want to get too confident there Laura. It's still just the beginning, you know that. Lance and Natalie were meant to be together, wll know it."

"Whatever you say."

Natalie walked back to Justin and smiled. "Okay, I can take over from here."

The lady nodded her head appreciatively before leaving. Immediately, Natalie began giggling again as she ran her hands through Justin's curls. Justin watched her reflection in the mirror and sighed at the beautiful sound of her laughter.

Natalie stopped when she noticed Justin's gaze on her and reached for a bottle of hairspray. "What?"

"You just have the cutest laugh I've ever heard."

"Justin, flattering me doesn't get me anywhere. If you really want me, just make your move."

Justin's face turned bright red and he looked down. "I wasn't hitting on you... I was just telling you that your laugh is adorable."

"Mmm hmmm.." Natalie parted a few pieces of his hair and sprayed the spot and then fluffed the curls. "That's why your face is bright red now."

"You pulled my hair and it hurt."

"More like I pulled your EGO and it hurt."

"What makes you think I would go for a girl like you?"

"Because.. You seem like you enjoy a girl who will push you around and be aggressive with you."

"Oh, is that so?"

Natalie nodded her head, teasing some of Justin's curls with a comb. "Yep."

"And you're the aggressive kind that I supposedly need?"

Natalie winked at him when he looked up at her in the mirror. "I can be." She set her comb down and stepped back. "Wah la. All done. I really am good with my hands, huh, Justin?"

Justin smirked at her as he stood, brushing an imaginary piece of lint off of his yellow polo shirt. He had to smile at the way he seemed to tower over her. "I don't know, but I'm sure eventually I'll find out, aggressive Natalie." With that said, he took her hand in his and kissed it briefly before releasing it and walking away.

Natalie stood, watching his retreating form until he exited the room. Laura saw this from where she stood, so she took it upon herself to walk up to Natalie.

"Hi, Natters. What's going on? Justin giving you a hard time?"

Natalie shook her head in disbelief. Justin had not only just openly flirted with her, but he'd practically told her that she'd eventually be doing something with her hands to Justin to prove how good she was with them, and she was positive it had nothing to do with his hair.

"Earth to Natalie....... Helloooooooooo... Come in... This is Laura speaking... I am your fa---"

"Enough! No, Justin wasn't giving me a hard time. We were just having a nice conversation like most friends do."

"Most friends don't kiss their friends' hand when they walk away."

"Justin was being polite. You know what a charming gentleman he is."

"Yeah, well..." Laura stopped and screamed when she was lifted off her feet. She squirmed in the mystery person's arms and recognized Wade's face. "Oh, hi Wade. Nice of you to drop by and pick me up."

"We need to get to the audience. You too, Nat."

Natalie rubbed her hands together as they began walking away. Why would she need to watch them here, when she had a front row show to their lives for an entire tour, and to her, that was all she would ever need.
